Mellow Mushroom: Germantown, Tennessee 2010

Filed under: TORK, art work, metal & resin, resin casting, restaurant

Here we are rolling into the new year with high hopes and many projects on deck, and just to tease, we have a major one that is all TORK, which will be revealed at a later date. How do you like them apples, very vague, huh?

On to our latest install. Tony and Mark made the drive down to Germantown, Tennessee, which is in the Memphis area to install the three pieces we did for the Mellow Mushroom restaurant chain. The pieces were, a ceiling medallion cast in crystal clear resin and layered with color changing film, a Mellow Mushroom sign cast in crystal clear and layered with color changing film, and a stainless tree (which you’ve seen pix of) with crystal clear leaves layered with the color changing film. According to Mark and Tony the tree was a hit, and on more than one occasion, people driving by would stop to check it out. Also, Mark said that the pictures don’t do it justice, it’s a piece that needs to be seen in person, especially because of the color changing film. Mind blowing….nice! Enjoy the pix, people!

Only one picture? Yep, just one picture. We know it’s not the flurry of images your used to, but it is a cool pic all the same. This is a shot of our trusty shop geek next to the Trippy Tree we’re fabricating for Mellow Mushroom Restaurant in Germantown, Tennessee, so we can give you a sense of scale. How do you like them apples, huh? See we think about all of you out there.

Finding Our Mellow

Well friends, here is our latest project, and we’re damn excited about this one. This tree is for the Mellow Mushroom restaurant chain. This one is heading to Germantown, Tennessee. They’re calling it the Mellow Mushroom Germantown tree, but here it’s referred to as the Trippy Tree. Why is that, you ask? It’ll all become more apparent and your mind blown, as the tree progresses to having the resin leaves attached. These are some progress photos of the tree, to let all of our friends know what is currently happening here at the TORK workshop. Did I mention we were excited about this tree….we are…E-X-C-I-T-E-D!!!

// ex·cit·ed (k-std) adj.

1. Being in a state of excitement; emotionally aroused; stirred.
2. Physics Being at an energy level higher than the ground state.
I think you get where I’m coming from here, no?
On to the details and photos.
The tree is made out of stainless steel (yes, just like the others before), but it’s shape is conducive to being able to stand up underneath it, since it’ll be placed on the patio. The leaves are what will make this tree trip inducing, if you will. They are crystal clear resin (zero color) with our exclusive color changing film inserted into the resin. So, depending on where you are standing/sitting, and what kind of light is hitting the canopies, the leaves will change color depending on your perspective. The color range is full spectrum, from warm (yellows, reds, oranges) to cool (blues and greens). This is the first time we have ever done this so you can see why we’re so geeked about getting to do this. This is why we love our job here at TORK. We hope you enjoy these progress photos, and keep your eyes on this blog for updates on this tree.

Wood County Hospital : Bowling Green, Ohio – Install

Well folks here are two of the best images we have right now. The hospital site is still under construction, so it was tough to get a good picture. We’ll go back after completion to snap some good pics, with all of the landscaping in place etc. So, please enjoy these. The tree is made of stainless steel and has resin leaves in a range of reds. Each canopy starts darker in the middle and gets lightest towards the center.

This is the final set of images from work here at the shop on the Wood County Hospital trees.  These images show the resin leaves being attached, as well as the completed tree. Which will look oodles (oh, yea, I said “oodles”) better once it is outside with the sunlight illuminating it instead of our florescent shop lights. The install is this week, so look for those pics later this week, or early next.

Here are a few more shots from our current project for Wood County Hospital. These images show the welds being ground and sanded flush, the surface of the tree is also sanded, this is all in preparation for the sandblasting, which is the next step, and will even out the finish on the surface of the tree. Then it’s all about attaching the resin leaves.

Vieng’s Asian Bistro : Westlake, Ohio

These are some older images, from last winter to be exact, of Vieng’s Asian Bistro in Westlake, Ohio. We did two dragons fabricated out of steel. We also did a set of door pulls, which were cast in bronze. The dragons and door pulls were designed and executed by TORK. Sorry, we only have an image of the outside dragon, but the inside one is actually quite similar. Maybe we’ll get a better shot one day.

We can feel your excitement. Really. Even through the internet, we feel it…true story. We would like to thank all of you who have taken the time to stop by to see what we here at TORK Industrial ARTifacts, are up to. We appreciate your interest and curiosity. Thanks!!!

This is our current project  for the Healing Garden at Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green, Ohio.  This is another tree, similar to the one we did for Dublin Methodist Hospital, but a bit smaller to fit the space. It is made of stainless steel and will be sandblasted, just like the Tripoint Medical Center trees. The leaves will be resin, and the color spectrum will be reds, from deep red on the larger leaves to light red on the smaller. We’ll post images of those when we start attaching them. So,  please enjoy these progress pictures.
